Apartment in Crimea / Vasiliy Butenko

Description from the designer:
The apartment in Crimea uses earthy tones in the furniture to offset the stark black granite and black wenge in the kitchen and dining areas. The black section demarcating this area automatically creates a sense of drama and intimacy at the same time by being grounded between the pale pine flooring and the white ceiling. Like the restaurant, texture plays a major role in the success of these interiors, contrasting smooth surfaces with textured black walls and alcove in which a sensuous caramel sofa resides. The black ‘Mess’ lighting (also designed by Butenko) mimics the textured walls, in turn creating a cohesive look throughout. The bedroom deserves a special mention for its stunning wooden plaited walls, also replicated in black in the study, reminiscent of Pacific Island weaving used on the facade of traditional huts. The elevated sleeping and relaxing zone with its sunken bed is the ultimate in minimalist design.
